Who has the Fossil Fuel Resources in ASEAN?
Working on the new database; to update the old version on the Map of ASEAN Energy Resource. Hopefully, when we have the new one, we could develop more appropriate policy in shaping the future direction for the region. Data is the key, isn’t?
But meanwhile, for initial picture, let’s see the data from BP from their publication “Statistical Review of World Energy 2014″. I coined the chart for oil and gas reserves in selected ASEAN Member Countries (no history of coal reserves data available), in the following Figures.
Three decades ago, Indonesia owned almost 80% of the regional reserves, but in 2013 only 28%, defeated by Vietnam who didn’t think even they have oil in their land. Meanwhile, for Natural Gas, after enjoyed two decades dominated the regional resources, Malaysia and Indonesia are going the different direction. Natural gas reserves in Malaysia almost back to the level of 1980, while Indonesia is still maintaining its high reserves. But hey, Vietnam is also growing!
